Menlo Park Information

Menlo Park

Menlo Park is a charming suburb located on the San Francisco Bay Peninsula in the Bay Area. The city is bordered by Palo Alto, Atherton and Portola Valley.   As a member of Tree City USA, Menlo Park has enacted strict polices in order to keep their native Oak trees alive and well.   Thanks to these laws, Menlo Park has kept a small town rural charm among some of its neighboring cities.  Much of Menlo Park’s economy stems from the treasured Sand Hill Road venture capital companies, financial services and other professional services.  This unique city with a small town feel serves as the headquarters of some of today’s leading technology giants.

History:

Menlo Park received its official name from two Irish settlers who named their 1,700 acres estate “Menlo Park”.   In 1863 the railroad company came through and erected the last station on the line. The name “Menlo Park” was officially adopted by the railroad officials for this station.    The city eventually built up around the train station.   For many years the town stayed a rural community, until World War I when solider training camps were erected did the city see substantial growth.

After the war Menlo Park saw another population growth and further expansion.   After acquiring 29 acres, the city built a civic center and later Santa Cruz Avenue.   Menlo Park is home to a few landmarks, such as the city's train station which is currently the oldest continually operating station.   Currently Menlo Park is home to such notable companies as Sunset Magazine, Tesla, USGS, SRI, SLAC and Facebook.
